My Philosophy
The importance of development is affected by our culture and environmental factors. Students in a classroom are influenced by the social interactions that occur. Vygotsky's theory connects to my philosophy of Progressivism by shaping the lives of children in creating relationships and building their identities through social interaction. These relationships teach important values and norms to students that
they cannot learn from books. They also
learn how to treat others and classroom rules from each other. Through progressivim, we will do hands on projects, do in group activities, and tackle real world problems.
Our classroom is designed to have the desks always facing one another. Sometimes we will have the desks in a circle for discussion. Other times we will have them in pods of three or four students to a group. A horse-shoe shape is also for optimal social interaction and seeing other students. My classroom will seldom have the desks in rows. This design is also great of supervision of students and making sure they are on task. Pods creates more space for students to walk around and socialize during group projects.
